ron Hextall 1996-1998 road jersey
Size 60
Nike Flo-knit Road Set MeiGray LOA 2008 |
This jersey was worn by Hextall sometime during either the 96-97 or 97-98 season. This shirt was certified by MeiGray in 2008 and has typical goalie use with a few customizations by the team. The front of the jersey shows a few cuts and scrapes to the crest and a black mark just to the left of the Flyers crest. The right sleeve has been shortened and at some point vented (cut) up the seam in the cuff area. This alteration is consistent with other Hextall gamers of the era. Also worth mention is the red post paint just above the elbow area and a small white scuff in the cuff area. The red marks happened when Hextall would bang his stick off each post to position himself. The jersey would sometimes get caught in between the stick and post making the marks. The left arm has the same two customizations to the sleeve cuff, a black marking under the sleeve number 2, white mark on cuff, and the red washed out post paint. On this sleeve, the post paint is more concentrated in the elbow area. The rear of the jersey has some loose threads on the back numbers and some nice red goalpost paint on the number 2 from leaning back against the post during the game. This has also been found on other Nike Hextall gamers. Inside, 27 has been written on the Nike tag in black sharpie by the trainer. The original fight strap remains in tact. A beauty of a “tender” jersey worn by one of the most memorable Flyers in the club's history!

Antero Niittymaki 2008-2009 Alternate jersey
Size 58 Goalie Cut
Reebok 2.0 Alternate Set 2 MeiGray LOA |
This orange alternate jersey was worn between the pipes by Flyers goaltender,Antero Niittymaki, during the 08-09 season. It features good use for a goalie shirt with the front exhibiting a puck mark on the crest, some light staining near the neck, and two puck marks. The right sleeve shows about six puck marks including a nice one through the 0 on the arm numbers. The left sleeve has two additional puck marks. The rear of the jersey shows even wear with puckering to the rear numbers and nameplate. Inside the jersey has a size 58 tag and goalie style tag. The fight strap remains in the rear. There is pilling on the chest area and in the right elbow area. These first year orange alternates with the normal number configuration are getting harder to come by so this jersey is a welcomed addition to the collection!

mark laforest 1987-1988 home jersey
Measures to a 54G
CCM Ultrafil Home Set |
This jersey was by worn by Flyers goalie Mark Laforest during the 1987-88 season. He would see action in 21 contests while backing up Ron Hextall. This particular jersey is made from ultrafil material and is part of a couple of sets worn by the team only during the 87-88 season. The jersey features typical goalie use with most of the puck marks having been laundered out which was normal for the period. There is a good amount of staining left on the front and a couple of left over black markings. The left sleeve has been hemmed to Mark’s specifications and has a nice black puck mark on the elbow area. The numbers show evidence of washings as well. The right sleeve features the same hem to the sleeve cuff and a few pulls in the fabric. The sleeve numbers show a little puckering from washings. Around back, nice even use can be found with some fabric pulls, black marks to the rear left 3, and some staining next to the nameplate. Inside, a well washed out Maska Ultrafil tag can be found in the neck area. The fight strap has been cut out by the trainer as was typical in some 80’s Flyers goalie shirts. There is a nice area of fabric pilling in the neck area from pads making contact with the fabric. All said, it’s a very nice, hard to find, ultrafil goalie sweater dawned by a guy they called “Trees”!

Darren Jensen 1984-1985 road jersey
Size XS Goalie Cut
Eagle Mesh IceViolence LOA |
This orange road jersey was worn by Darren Jensen during the middle of the 84-85 campaign. He would wear this jersey four times with the first three times being the backup to Pelle Lindbergh on 1-2-85, 1-12-85, and 2-9-85. He was given the start and played the whole game on 2-5-85 in a 7-5 loss. The video below shows Jensen on the ice during a brawl. The game wear on the jersey is on the light side with the front showing even use with a few scrapes to the Flyers crest, a few white markings on the lower front, and a white stick mark on the black hem area. The right arm is fairly clean with about 2" of the black piping that has come loose. The left arm has some washed out black markings, a small slice and black mark on one of the sleeve number 3's, and loose stitching where the double elbows are sewn in. The rear of the jersey has some fabric pulled and puckering to the rear number 3's. Inside the washed out Eagle Sportswear tag and XS size tag are present. There is inner pilling present in both arms forearm area and cuff area from his equipment rubbing. The fight strap has been cut out, most likely by the team, as some goalie jerseys had this modification. Overall, a great mid 80's game worn example worn by Darren Jensen. He would be called upon later that year to fill in for Pelle Lindbergh following his tragic car accident. Jensen would become forever loved in the hearts of Flyers fans for stepping into the crease and winning the first Flyers game to take place after the accident on 11-14-85.

Dave "Sudsy" Settlemyre 1986-1987 Road jersey
Size 52 Goalie Cut
CCM Mesh Road Set GI Gamewornauctions.net LOA |
This road jersey was issued to Flyer's long time equipment manager/trainer, Dave "Sudsy" Settlemyre during the 1986-87 season. Dave played for a few teams during his 6 year minor pro career before becoming the Flyers equipment manager/trainer a position he would hold for a decade. Dave was actually called upon to back up Pete Peeters during the 89-90 season due to a pre-game injury to Ken Wregget. If you collect Flyers game-worn jerseys, you know who Sudsy is and definitely know his son Derek, who was the head trainer/equipment manager for over a decade. As far as the jersey itself goes, there is no game use present. Size '52' is penned on the CCM neck tag along with a large sharpie "G" designation for goalie cut. The fight strap has been cut out. This modification is consistent with game-worn examples from this set in 86/87 that had the fight straps cut out and a new strap sewn through one of the rear numbers. A cool offering from a Flyers legend in his own right!
